According to the latest Mobile Data Consumption Report from NPD Connected Intelligence, cellular data consumption on smartphones in March 2020 was up by 75% year-over-year and 27% month-over-month.

US smartphone users consumed a record 48.5 GB of data monthly, up from 37.6 GB in the previous quarter due to COVID-19 that forced consumers to follow strict stay-at-home guidelines. We have seen a balanced growth in both Wi-Fi and cellular usage with the former connection method again, accounting for three-quarters of the total data traffic.
The Device Usage Trends Report includes a 3-year view of device usage and a profile worksheet. This quarterly data report quantifies consumer use of computers, TV-connected devices, tablets, and smartphones; examining how usage of each screen has changed over the past 3-years.
