Overview

Wyze Cameras Will Use Video to Text

Wyze has added new AI features meant to cut down on the number of times users manually check their security footage. The new Descriptive Alerts accessed via Wyze’s Cam Unlimited Pro subscription will send notifications that will “accurately summarize motion events” adding contextual detail. An example would be “a pizza deliveryman wearing a red hat leaves a pizza at the doorstep then leaves. A white truck is parked on the street”.

The Circana Take:

  • New AI features like natural language notifications and search will drive more users to subscribe to their camera’s monthly service - and likely compel them to step up beyond the basic plan features.
  • As AI applications become more powerful, expect events to help trigger scenes and settings (ex. A white truck is parked on the street…turn my lights on.)

Gemini Creates Automations

Setting up home automation routines and settings can be a daunting task even for the most seasoned Smart Home users. While Google released the ‘Help Me Script’ allowing for expanded and customized routines, the tool was arduous to use. Today, select users can leverage Gemini AI to create custom routines through the Help Me Script. By simply describing the automation in natural language (ex. “Help me Sleep Better”) Gemini will code and adjust any needed settings to enable the routine in Google Home. Availability is limited to those included in Google’s ‘Public Preview’ via ‘Experimental AI Features’.

The Circana Take:

  • Settings and routines have mostly been limited to Smart Home power users, however with more intuitive set up aided by Gemini AI, expect more users to program settings in their devices.
  • Natural language controls, as they are rolled out to all users, will appeal to older and less tech interested Smart Home users- exactly the customers manufacturers and retailers are targeting.
